Building with a steel frame construction
About thirty years ago we came in contact with the system of steel frame constructing, coming from the United States and more specifically from the construction of blocks of flats.
Nowadays especially people with a preference for modern, minimalistic architecture opt for this method. With this onstruction method, the structure is supported by the frame. The walls which are put against it at a later stage have no supporting function. For that reason often light walls are used. These are the advantages:
- This method is extremely fast. A steel frame construction can be ready and windproof in under one week (vertical walls, roof-supports and exterior woodwork, the casting of foundations excluded)
- Building with galvanised steel can be combined with classical materials.
- The construction is solid. The frame guarantees the stability of the building.
- Steel frame construction is flexible! When you decide to alter your house, this can be realized fairly simple. All walls can be taken down without causing structural problems. Therefore one can easily put up an extra floor or move walls.
- Once the house is ready you won’t see a difference with traditionally-built houses.
If you really do the maths, you can build a lot cheaper than with traditional building techniques. We co-operate with a French company, the steel comes from Belgium and the materials used for the walls, guarantee a superbly insulated house which meets the latest European standards for passive houses.
The full concept offers some serious financial advantages from design (own architect’s firm) to finish.
